Happy Birthday, Winter Bear <3
It’s that time of the year, everyone! Seven times a year, we celebrate the blessed births of each of our favorite boys - Bangtan Sonyeondan. This segment, brought to you by yours truly, will feature BTS events that I’ve attended for each member’s birthdays in New York City. BTS’ birthdays are always more exciting than my own, and it’s always nice to come together with ARMY. A huge thank you to all those who put in so much time, effort, and energy into planning and hosting these events!
It’s that time of the year, everyone! Seven times a year, we celebrate the blessed births of each of our favorite boys--Bangtan Sonyeondan. This segment, brought to you by yours truly, will feature BTS events that I’ve attended for each member’s birthdays. As I’m based in New York, all the events are limited to NYC, so I’m sorry about the geographical limits. This is only my personal experience, but feel free to share your experiences and goodies as I would love to see and hear about it (I love a good café cup sleeve event). BTS’ birthdays are always more exciting than my own, and it’s always nice to come together with ARMY. I always end up staying later than I expected to, meet new friends and come together with old ones, and get a bunch of freebies. A huge thank you to all those who put in so much time, effort, and energy into planning and hosting these events!
Listen, I better start off with an apology. I know that last time I said I would at least attend half of Taehyung’s birthday events for the lack of Jin. But, like new year's resolutions that fall through the minute they’re spoken into existence, I did not attend enough Tae events this time around either. Uh, actually, I didn’t attend any this time, so somehow I out-disappointed myself from last time. What actually happened was that I’d worked throughout the holiday season and couldn’t make it to any of the birthday events in time, which was a hard price to pay.
Which is why I’m looping in my friend Carolyn here, who attended at least three of the events and got not one, not two, but three cup sleeves from a single event. We pretty much attend most of these birthday events together anyway, but this time around we had a substitute for me: my friend Joyce, who was visiting from LA. So, lucky for me, I still got to receive the goodies even though I wasn’t physically there *tear*. But I digress-- Carolyn will tell you the rest.
Let’s set the scene. It’s the day before New Year's Eve; what else could people in New York City (and the rest of the world) possibly be more excited for than the new year? December 30 had basically held no meaning to me until BTS came into my life, when it became the only day that could ever be given the coveted title of *drum roll* Kim Taehyung’s birthday.
1. December 28th - 29th
Luna Coffee Shop, 121 W 29th St.
Cup Sleeve event
I’m sad Casey couldn’t come to any of the events but, luckily, our friend Joyce (not an ARMY, but a solid friend) was visiting so we still got freebies for Casey! Luna Coffee Shop was our first stop. Due to intel, I received via text from a friend with absolute confirmation: the freebies are lit. Joyce and I got in line and it wasn’t long before a season’s greetings-themed poster of Tae and an adorable cup sleeve with an image of him pouting and wrapped in a blanket with edited overlays of snow and pine trees, was in my hands. The warm lighting and wood interior of the coffee shop was the perfect setting for the Winter Bear theme, inspired by Tae’s self-written song, “Winter Bear.” As usual, there were photos of the birthday boy pasted on the walls, fans singing along to the BTS songs playing on the overhead speakers, and kind-hearted ARMYs giving out homemade freebies. After spending a few minutes looking around, Joyce took some photos of me holding laminated printouts of Tae’s face as I stood in front of posters of a campfire and a cabin window that looks out into the snowy woods (undoubtedly meant to add to the ~cozy~ vibes). Then we headed straight for the next event.
2. December 28th - 30ths
Cafe Bene, 39 W 32nd St.
Cup Sleeve Event + exhibition
The key draw of the event hosted at Cafe Bene this time around was the perk of choosing which cup holder design you wanted out of their 4 options. Tae is my bias so, naturally, I wanted—nay, needed—as many of the designs as possible. As greedy as I may be sometimes, I didn’t get all the designs I wanted in one day; I made sure to get one for Casey first before going back the next day to get 2 out of the remaining 3 designs (hehe). They are now displayed on my bookshelf at home with their brethrens from previous birthday events. Joyce and I didn’t stay at Cafe Bene for long-- just long enough to eat our cake, chat for a bit, and for me to get a few pictures with the decorations.
Now, it wouldn’t be my life if something didn’t go a little wrong (haha, just kidding). I am grateful just to have these events available to me! But also yes, there was a moment of disappointment when I headed into Chinatown that night at 7:30pm to attend the “Art Gallery” for Tae because the poster had written the time wrong and it was! already! closed. So sorry to say we will never find out what art gallery would even mean in this context. Fan art? Photos of Tae? Copies of Vante’s art? Displays of art pieces Tae’s shown affection for? Yeah, I wish I knew too.

Kim Taehyung 💜 Happy Happy Birthday. • It’s still your birthday in the states so here we go. I don’t usually write tributes, to people especially people I never met before, but I feel like he’s the absolute exception because he’s the loml hehe • In the past year since I wrote last year’s caption, I realized that he’s worth camping out for four days in all types of inclement weather so that I can see his face, his smile, him perform even for a little. He’s worth standing in the middle of Times Square in the pouring rain for me to get a glimpse of him through a screen. When I think of love, he’s one of the things that immediately comes into mind. This may sound dramatic but I can cry thinking about him because I just love him that much. He never fails to teach me to be proud of myself, pursue any interest that I want because seeing him chase his dream has inspired me to go after mine. I strive to be half the person he is today: someone who truly loves, someone who truly gives, and someone who truly cares. Thank you Taehyung again for never failing to put a smile on my face, for making me feel loved, even though you were the one who was born to be loved; you give more love than you get. Everyday I celebrate him and who he is to me. Going to these events and seeing so many people support him and love him really shown how much of a difference he has made in not only my life, but in so many people’s lives. hehehe ilysm 💜🤍💕 • Enjoy the pics I took from some celebrations I went to around the city 🥺🥺
3. December 29th - 30th
Bibble & sip, 253 W 53rd St
Cup sleeve event
The last event I attended was at Bibble & Sip in Midtown. It was pouring rain but not even hellfire can stop me from celebrating Tae so Joyce and I headed out once again. This was my first time going to a birthday event hosted here and it was super cute! The cafe made little macarons that looked like chibi blue-haired Tae, there were two options for cup sleeves-- angel and devil-- which I am sure were inspired by his undeniable and ultra-desirable duality, BTS music played through the speakers, and the decorations melded right into the usual aesthetic of the cafe. Even though we had to suffer through the stressful journey home under the pouring rain and amongst the busy crowds of midtown, I felt happy and warm and fuzzy inside knowing that we all love Tae.
So there we have it--another happy conclusion to another BTS birthday. Thank you to Carolyn for giving us a look into her experience (and thank you Joyce for getting the cup sleeves for me), as otherwise we would have literally had nothing. Having BTS friends is the best. As Tae’s birthday is towards the end of the year and during the holiday season, it tends to be a bit hectic. But this makes it even more impressive that we got so many cup sleeve events and options, so for that I am more than grateful as well. If only I could have attended even one *sigh*. Let’s try to keep my promises for next time.
Here’s hoping Hobi’s birthday will give you all the cafe article you deserve.
